End of Year 2021 Business Book Review Video
I am starting a new business video podcast called Commerce and Coffee.
In the first episode of Commerce and Coffee I’m wrapping up the year 2021 with an overview of books I read and a few projects I’ve started.
Episode 1 of Commerce and Coffee was recorded on December 31, 2021. Yes, New Year’s Eve.
I was going to use coffee and commerce, however, upon looking, I found out that Gary Vaynerchuk guy is using coffee and commerce for his podcast. I haven’t listened to him for years.
The books I talk about in episode 1 of Commerce and Coffee are
- Think and Grow Rich
- Telesales
- The challenger Sale
- The E-Myth
- The New Economics
All of these books have a place in a well-appointed library.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Think and Grow Rich is a classic of early twentieth century thought and an uplifting message for the county during the great depression.
Think and Grow Rich will also give insight into the historic myths that contribute to the anti-mask movement of the twenty first century. A time when plagues and pandemics ravished the Earth.
Telesales by Stephan Schiffman
Telesales is a basic and easy to understand, and implement, plan for teaching a quick sales method. I plan on using this as a foundation for sales training as I move more into business services.
The Challenger Sale by Brent Adamson and Mathew Dixon
The challenger Sale is meant for B2B sales and has a lot of very useful insight, technique, and theory. The ideas in this book, while more sophisticated than telesales, build on the skills one can acquire from implementing the telesales techniques.
The challenger Sale builds new techniques onto Neil Rackham’s Spin Selling. I also reread Spin Selling this year, however, since I have the eBook version I did not review it.
The E-Myth Michael E. Gerber
The E-Myth goes over many of the pitfalls of going from a very small business to the next level. I think a lot of people who have one or two person businesses will find the information in this book valuable. If you’ve been in business any length of time you may recognize some of the scenarios he talks about. You may have even experienced some of the business mistakes this author highlights in the book.
The best thing about the E-Myth book is the author does walk through a method for preventing many problems as a business grows.
If you’re looking for advice on growing a small business this could be the book for you.
New Economics by Edwards Deming
The New Economics by Edwards Deming, this is an author I rather enjoy. This book teaches why we need to have an appreciation for the system and why we need to have knowledge about variation. Deming also emphasizes the need for a theory of knowledge and a need to know about psychology.
Deming illustrates how cooperation instead of competition can lead to superior products and increased profits.
I plan on implementing many of the concepts from Deming into the business services I offer to my customers.
Are there any businesses in the Long Beach, Gateway Cities, or North Orange County areas of California who would like to explore the use of cooperation with other businesses to cut costs and increase profits?
While I am only doing web design and marketing for local businesses, I am always interested in connecting and talking to business people from outside my immediate area.
We help with web design and marketing for businesses in Long Beach California, as well as other Gateway Cities and North Orange County in California.
