The Buena Park Puzzle Property

This is a short blog post and video about an interesting look at a puzzling part of Buena Park. The welcome to Buena Park sign is straightforward. However, across the creek is a property that I think is in Buena Park, but sometimes on Google Maps it has a La Habra address and sometimes it has a Buena Park address. To get to the truth I call Buena Park City Hall. The planning department at Buena Park City Hall confirmed it is in Buena Park. But it took them a little research to do it. I would like to know the history about why they drew the boundaries there. For weeks leading up to my phone call to confirm the jurisdiction of the property in question Google maps gave the address as La Mirada. Then magically it started showing up as Buena Park. I am thinking maybe Google is incorporating Artificial Intelligence into their map searches.

These fringe properties can be interesting to work with and it’s not uncommon for them to also have a few problems with development, zoning, and other business related challenges.

Testing New Video Editing Software

In this video I was experimenting with a fairly new feature of my video editing software. It’s a feature that removes background noise. It works remarkably well. However, when there is an excessive amount of noise it will also cut a large part of my spoken words off. It reminds me of losing packets in a phone call or zoom call. The result is that the audio quality is not what I would like in excessively noisy areas. But for on location shoots where there is music with a copyright it will be extremely useful. I believe I can get better audio by using an external recorder. A lot of my videos are shot while out and about seeing clients or doing other activities.

I also noticed that the automatic transcription is not nearly as good when cutting out the background noise. This is definitely a compromise. You would not want to do a TV show using this method, probably not even a long online video. I really don’t even like this video. I might go back and redo this video at some point using a better mic and an external audio recorder. I mainly left it in as an example of what good software can and can’t do.

I’m Andrew Ledford and today we are on two very important roads here in North Orange County. We’re at Beach Boulevard. I think you can see it up here. Old Highway 39 and Rosecrans Ave. Over here we are in what is La Habra, but the main reason we’re here is we are going to go to the border of Buena Park just a few steps away.

So let’s see. They’re fancy new, wait, wait, um, crosswalk here. Fancy new crosswalk.

Now the cars get to turn. I think we’re next.

So here we’re looking South on Beach Boulevard.

And this is North going towards the Puente Hills.
Uh, the guy cut me off. He’s trying to run me over.
So this is north.

And here right in front of me is Coyote Creek. Los Coyote’s Creek. Here it is right there. There used to be a lot of horse properties and dog kennels along this creek. Down further on, I used to actually live at a dog kennel down here and I would run Coyote Creek, Los Coyote’s Creek, Every day.

There’s some interesting little bridges that go across, little walkways, little walking bridges.

So, one of the interesting things about Buena Park is after we get up here and actually get into the city, there’s a tiny little sliver that goes over the creek here and forms a little triangle on the other side. How these cities are laid out, it makes me wonder why they did that. But somebody had that great idea way back when they founded the city, I’m sure.

Home to Knott’s Berry Farm.

My cousin used to know the Knots family when we’d go in there for chicken, breakfast, chicken dinner. Actually it was usually brunch. She would always ask for Mrs. Knott. Till Mrs. Knott passed away

and go in there and chat with them. Back in the olden days, everybody knew each other. Hey, here we are. Buena Park.

And then I think this apartment complex, you can see how the wall slants in. I think that is Buena Park. A little sliver of Buena Park on the other side of the creek.

Here we go. There’s the Buena Park sign. So we are now stepping into Buena Park.
